Mendli (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the Mendli mobile application (the “App”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and keeping your conversations anonymous and safe. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your choices.

If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use Mendli.


1. What Mendli Is (and Is Not)

  • Mendli provides peer support only.
  • Mendli does not provide medical, psychological, or professional mental‑health services.
  • We never store clinical records.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the minimum amount of information needed to run the platform and keep it safe.

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Nickname or display name
  • Optional avatar
  • Language preferences
  • Emotional support topics you’re comfortable discussing
  • Time zone (general region only, never precise location)
  • Messages you send in chats
  • Reports you submit
  • Conversation ratings and feedback

2.2 Information We Automatically Collect:

  • General location based on IP (country or region only)
  • Device type, operating system version, app version
  • Approximate location (country / region only — never precise GPS)
  • Chat metadata (start time, duration, whether text or voice — no content unless flagged for safety)
  • App usage analytics (e.g., buttons clicked, screens visited)
  • Log data (dates/times users start or end sessions)

We do not track your exact GPS location.


2.3 We do NOT collect:

  • Real name, email address, phone number, or any account login (no sign-up with email/password required)
  • Profile photos or any visual identification
  • Precise location
  • Payment information (we do not process payments at this time)
  • Health records or formal medical diagnoses

2.4 Sensitive Information

Because Mendli is a peer‑support space, you may choose to share personal feelings or sensitive details inside chats. Chats may contain sensitive emotional content. We treat all chat content as highly confident

  • These messages are stored securely only to provide the service, moderate safety issues, and improve user experience.
  • We never use them for advertising or profiling.
  • We do not sell or rent user data.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the limited information we collect only to:

  • Operate and improve the Mendli platform
  • Match users for peer-to-peer support
  • Maintain account functionality
  • Provide safety and moderation features
  • Respond to reports, violations, or harm-prevention situations
  • Detect and prevent fraud, spam, or abuse
  • Comply with applicable laws
  • Keep the App running smoothly (bug fixes, performance)
  • Prevent abuse, spam, harassment, or violations of our Community Guidelines
  • Improve matching quality (e.g. learn which moods pair well — always in aggregated / anonymized form)
  • Comply with legal obligations (e.g. respond to valid court orders)
  • In rare cases: safety reviews (see section 7)

We never use your data to make automated decisions about your mental health.

We never use your data for targeted advertising.


4. How We Share Information

We do not sell your data. Ever. We only share information when necessary:

4.1 With Service Providers (Strictly Necessary)

Examples:

  • Cloud hosting
  • Database storage
  • Analytics
  • Moderation tools

These partners must follow confidentiality and data‑protection agreements.

4.2 Other limited situations

  • To prevent serious harm: if we believe someone is in immediate danger to themselves or others (we may contact emergency services or hotlines)
  • For legal reasons: if required by law, subpoena, or to protect our rights
  • Aggregated / fully anonymized statistics (e.g. “X% of users felt better after a chat”) for research or public reports — never individual data

4.3 When Required by Law

We may share data if required by:

  • Court orders
  • Law enforcement requests
  • Legal or safety obligations

4.4 Safety Exceptions

If we detect a credible threat of harm, we may use or share information to protect users or others — but we never monitor all chats automatically or act as therapists.


5. How We Protect Your Information

Your data is protected through:

  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS)
  • Encrypted data storage
  • Access controls for internal systems
  • Limited data retention
  • Regular security reviews

No online platform can guarantee perfect security, but we follow industry best practices.


6. Data storage & retention

  • Chat messages are stored temporarily (usually up to 30–90 days) for safety reviews and technical support.
  • After that period, messages are automatically deleted unless required for an active safety/legal matter.
  • Technical metadata (device info, timestamps) is kept up to 12 months for abuse prevention.
  • We use strong security measures (encryption at rest & in transit) to protect stored data.

7. Safety monitoring & crisis situations

We care deeply about user safety.

  • We do not actively read every chat.
  • We may review chats only if:
    • A user reports abuse/harassment
    • Automated systems flag keywords related to self-harm, suicide, or violence
    • A listener uses the emergency “Transfer to crisis help” button

In crisis situations we may:

  • Show crisis hotline numbers (e.g. 988 in US, 116 123 in EU)
  • Contact emergency services if there is clear, immediate danger
  • Temporarily retain relevant chat snippets for legal/safety reasons

We follow best practices for suicide prevention and crisis intervention.


8. Your rights & choices

  • You can delete your chat history at any time from within the App (where available).
  • You can request deletion of your data by contacting support@silver-bison-441964.hostingersite.com (we will respond within 30 days).
  • You can stop using the App at any time — no account means no persistent data tied to you.
  • Residents of certain regions (e.g. EU under GDPR, California under CCPA/CPRA) have additional rights:
    • Access your data
    • Correct inaccurate data
    • Delete your data (“right to be forgotten”)
    • Object to / restrict processing
    • Withdraw consent (where consent is the basis)

9. Data Retention

We keep your data only as long as needed:

  • Account data: Until you delete your account
  • Chat messages: Limited time (e.g., 30–90 days) unless needed for moderation
  • Reports: Longer retention for safety and compliance

When information is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymize it.


10. Children’s Privacy

Mendli is for adults 18+ only.
We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
If you believe a minor is using our app, contact us immediately.


11. Peer-to-Peer Support Disclaimer

Users on Mendli are not professionals.
They should not provide:

  • Medical advice
  • Mental-health diagnosis
  • Legal advice
  • Emergency assistance

If you need emergency help, contact your local emergency services.


12. International data transfers

Data may be processed on servers in the United States or other countries. We use appropriate safeguards (e.g. Standard Contractual Clauses) for transfers outside the EEA.


13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy in the App and updating the “Last updated” date.
